John Kratzer

CEO

  • Joined John Moores in 1998 to lead a multi-billion dollar redevelopment effort in Downtown San Diego.

  • In 1994, co-founded HomeGate Hospitality Inc. (“HomeGate”), an extended stay hotel company, which he later took public and subsequently sold to Prime Hospitality for approximately $192 million, generating an 81.5% net IRR and a 2.8x investment multiple for HomeGate’s original investors.

  • Began career at Trammell Crow Realty Advisors, where he led the acquisition of numerous multi-family properties during the early 1990’s recession in the real estate industry.

Gregory W. Clay

President

  • Since joining JMI Realty in 1998, Mr. Clay has been directly responsible for the acquisition and development of projects with a combined cost in excess of $325mm and a realized or current value of over $625mm.

  • Prior to joining JMI Realty, Mr. Clay worked with Mr. Kratzer at HomeGate, serving as Director of Development, where he developed eight hotels with more than 1,300 rooms in the cities of Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

  • Began career at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts where he underwrote hotel acquisitions during the mid-1990’s hotel market recovery and was an integral part of the team that took Wyndham public.

  • Messrs. Kratzer and Clay have worked together for 23 years.

James Chatfield

SVP Construction

  • Mr. Chatfield played a key role in the transformation of the Ballpark District surrounding PETCO Park, including the construction management of the Omni San Diego Hotel, Metropolitan condominiums, East Village District Plant, and the retrofit of the Candy Factory and Schiefer & Sons historic buildings, both Orchid Award recipients.

  • Prior to joining JMI Realty, Mr. Chatfield worked for five years with the U.S. Navy’s Civil Engineering Corps (“CEC”), where he specialized in government construction contracting, facilities planning and maintenance, and base realignment and closure actions.

  • Mr. Chatfield has worked with Messrs. Kratzer and Clay at JMI Realty for over 18 years.

Taylor Vreeland

Acquisitions & Development

  • Mr. Vreeland is responsible for deal sourcing, underwriting, and conducting financial and feasibility analysis for JMI Realty’s acquisition and development projects. His primary responsibilities include execution of debt and equity financing transactions, purchase and sale, project recapitalization, branding and franchise agreements and disposition of JMI Realty’s owned assets.

  • He holds experience in underwriting an array of real estate property types, structured financing, and partnership agreements among JMI Realty’s investors, lenders, and joint venture partners.

  • Mr. Vreeland graduated Magna cum Laude from Vanderbilt University and received a Bachelors Degree. He is a member of Urban Land Institute.

Drew Bridges

Investment Management

  • Joined JMI Realty in 2011 as Financial Analyst, underwriting new development, acquisition, and financing opportunities.

  • Now responsible for Investment Management of JMI’s developed assets. This includes property management oversight, implementation of capex and value enhancement strategies, and investor relations.

  • After graduating from Cornell, Mr. Bridges began career at Archon Group in Dallas, participating in initiatives ranging from the acquisition of Non-Performing Loan portfolios, to assisting in the spin-off of what became known as Pillar Hotels and Resorts

Brian Terlip

Controller

  • Mr. Terlip overseas the financial reporting, treasury, and general accounting function for JMI Realty and its investments under management. He works closely with the management team to monitor daily financial activities and facilitate the flow of financial information to partners and lenders.

  • Prior to joining JMI Realty in 2011, Mr. Terlip worked for Meritage Homes Corporation as an accountant for the Austin and San Antonio divisions.

  • Began his career in public accounting with Ernst and Young in Dallas within their real estate audit group, with a primary focus on homebuilding and private equity investment clients.

  • Mr. Terlip Graduated from Southern Methodist University with BBA and MS in Accounting and is an active CPA in the State of Texas.

Matthew Comfort

Capital Markets

  • Mr. Comfort focuses on all capital market activities and acquisitions.

  • He was a founding partner of Bullwhip Capital Partners an investment platform focused on the hospitality space. Bullwhip’s investments include the iconic El Rey and La Fonda hotels in Santa Fe, NM as well as the historic Belmont Hotel in Dallas.

  • Prior to Bullwhip, Matt ran the Hospitality Capital Markets group for JLL.

  • In the last two years under his direction, the Hospitality on over $5.0 billion of transaction and advisory services, including financings, recapitalizations, note sales, and workout advisory/analytic services. Capital Markets platform executed

Jeff Burns

Acquisitions

  • Mr. Burns focuses on acquisitions and development at JMI Realty.

  • As a founding partner of Bullwhip Capital Partners LLC, an investment platform focused on the hospitality space, Jeff has made successful investments in hotels in multiple states across the US, including Santa Fe, NM and Dallas.

  • Prior to forming Bullwhip Capital Partners, he was a Senior Vice President for Behringer Harvard in Dallas where he managed the private REIT’s $650M Hotel Investments portfolio for a variety of assets across multiple funds.
